We often see great icon designers using Xara software and since we haven’t featured icons since January 2013 (which you can see in the drop down menu above), we reckon they are overdue for another visit.  Icons take particular illustration skills, the challenge being to pack as much character and detail as possible into a small space, while still making it possible for viewers to see a glance what you are trying to represent. In this issue we’re highlighting the work of Mike Miroshnikov and Alexei Ryazancev, who we think have mastered the task brilliantly.

Alexei Ryazancev

Alexei is a professional icon illustrator based in Russia, here are a few examples of his icons created in Xara Designer Pro.  You can see a movie of how he created the ring icon in his Dribble portfolio (Alexei Glumpix).                  

Mike Miroshnikov

Mike is another Russian designer, based in Los Angeles, icon design being just one of his design interests (see http://misha.live).  These examples come from his selection on Behance and elsewhere, and include work done at Russian icon design company Iconka http://misha.live/iconka/ alongside the great Denis Shazin (whose work you can see in the January 2013 Inspirational Art and the Xara Art Gallery).       That’s it for this month.
